36 YEARS RETROSPECTIVE
“And Tomorrow Who Am I?” (2019) was a unique, interactive exhibition organized by Artlab Contemporary Art Gallery in Beirut. Curated by the public, it explored the theme of identity.
The Public as Curator: On October 10th, 2019, the gallery invited the public from all generations to participate. Instead of a pre-selected collection, the gallery offered a bulk of 200 portraits (spanning Elchamaa’s career) as the raw material for the exhibition. Visitors then curated the show, making selections and arrangements reflecting their identity perspectives. The artist, Fadi Elchamaa, documented this participatory experience. (video by the artist)
‘Apostata Rex’, one of two hundred works is part of And Tomorrow Who Am I? It was painted in eight Arab cities over 20 years. It reflects post-identity where self-image is in constant flux.
