I invite you to direct your gaze at the small world of stains, spills, smudges, slurs, smears, blemishes, blotches, tinges, spatters … that are everywhere around you, on the floor, on the wall, on your cloth, on the door, on the glass, on the mirror, on the book, on the picture, on the screen, on the, etc. Most are man-made, though the ones found naturally on rocks and in nature show many similarities in form, they are not to be accounted for in your observation. These forms, which go with many names but each directing at a consequence, are mostly occurrences by accident ( spills are liquids that escaped their container, stains are enduring spots over delicate material, tinges are matter that did not mix well,…). Marks of human errors. The sign of imperfection, of hesitance, of agitation, of inaccuracy, of negligence, of hazard, of causal effect, of disturbance, of impulses, of emotions. This world of many names and many interpretations and for the sake of simplification, let’s call it formO, always singular.
A formO found on the marble floor of the Louvre, hidden from sight under a bench, upon inspection is made of two consecutive drops of detergent escaping an agitated container by a cleaning lady who got surprised by the ‘Bonjour Claire’ of a co-worker. These two drops are the physical manifestation of an emotion, an emotion only Claire felt and that, as an observer, you can only see. The formO, therefore, are emotions manifesting in a two-dimensional plain. (elchamaa)
